Description

N-Desmethyl paroxol is a piperidine that can be used in the treatment of depression. It is an acidic compound that is soluble in water and hydrochloric acid. N-Desmethyl paroxol has a hydroxyl group at the 2 position of the piperidine ring, which allows it to react with serotonin by an exchange reaction. The drug inhibits serotonin reuptake, thereby increasing levels of serotonin available for neurotransmission.
