N-Desmethyl rosiglitazone is a drug that inhibits the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which is responsible for the production of cholesterol. This drug has been shown to be effective in lowering blood sugar levels and treating type 2 diabetes. The human pharmacokinetics of this drug have been studied using a chemical inhibition method. It was found that the hydrochloric acid from the stomach could reduce absorption of rosiglitazone by as much as 37%. The matrix effect was also found to increase absorption by up to 50% when taken with food.
