N-Desmethyl zopiclone hydrochloride (NDZ) is a metabolite of zopiclone. This metabolite is formed in the liver by oxidative deamination of the parent drug and may be excreted in urine. The compound has been shown to inhibit the activity of human liver microsomal cytochrome P450 enzymes, which may lead to drug interactions with other drugs that are also metabolized by these enzymes. NDZ has been shown to have chronic treatment effects on animals, including an increased elimination rate, decreased body weight, and increased body mass index.
