4-(Diazonium)benzenesulfonic acid, fluoroborate salt (4DBF) is a cyclic diazonium salt that can be used to determine the concentrations of dopamine. It is synthesized from 4-aminobenzoic acid and 2-fluoroboric acid in the presence of sodium fluoride. The synthesis proceeds by condensation with 5-hydroxymethylfurfural. The product is then purified by recrystallization. 4DBF has been modified for voltammetry and fluorescence measurements. This compound has also been used as a chemical probe for modification of proteins and peptides, which provides information about their structural features.
4DBF has also been used to analyze metal ions such as Cu2+, Fe3+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, Cl-, and SO42-.
