Dibenzyl hydrogen phosphate is an organic molecule that is used in the synthesis of polymers and as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is highly soluble in organic solvents and has been shown to be cytotoxic against prostate cancer cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis. Dibenzyl hydrogen phosphate binds to creatine and other amino acids, which prevents their incorporation into proteins, leading to cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis. Dibenzyl hydrogen phosphate also binds covalently with cellular nucleophiles such as glutathione, cysteine, methionine, and histidine. This binding can lead to the formation of reactive oxygen species that cause oxidative stress and DNA damage.
