Description

N,N-Dibenzylformamide is an agrochemical. The carbonyl group in the molecule reacts with a carbon source to form an amide. The chloride ion can then be replaced by an organic solvent such as chloroform or carbon tetrachloride to produce an amine. This process is efficient and does not require high temperatures or pressures. N,N-Dibenzylformamide has been shown to cause allergic responses in humans at low doses and can cause skin irritation. It is also a respiratory irritant. N,N-Dibenzylformamide reacts with nitrogen atoms in the environment to produce nitrous acid, which can lead to acid rain and the depletion of the ozone layer.
