Product Information
- 2,7-Dichloro-9H-fluoreneNSC 73077
- 2,7-dichloro-9H-fluorene
2,7-Dichlorofluorene is an organic compound that contains fluorine and chlorine. It is synthesized by the amination reaction of chloroform with nitroethane in the presence of sodium ethoxide. The reaction mechanism is not well understood, but it may involve a sequence of reactions including a borohydride reduction to give 2,7-dichlorofluoroethylene followed by acetylation and chlorination. This chemical has been used as a precursor for other compounds such as polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs). The reactivity of 2,7-dichlorofluorene depends on the temperature: at constant temperature it reacts with chlorine to form chlorinated products; at high temperatures it undergoes oxidation reactions.
