Description:
1,5-Dihydropyrrolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine-2,4-dione is a peptidase inhibitor that is used to treat diabetes. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) and blocks the breakdown of proteins in the body. It has been shown to be effective in clinical trials as a monohydrochloride or hemihydrate crystal form for the treatment of diabetes mellitus type 2. 1,5-Dihydropyrrolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine-2,4-dione inhibits DPPIV activity by binding to its active site and blocking access to substrate. The drug has also been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties that are independent of food intake and does not require a high fat meal for absorption.
