Dihydroxy moxonidine is a metabolite of Moxonidine, which is a centrally acting imidazoline. The compound has been shown to be eliminated from plasma by the kidneys and excreted in the urine as unchanged Moxonidine. Dihydroxy moxonidine can be detected in plasma samples from humans at concentrations of about 100-200 ng/mL after administration of Moxonidine. The elimination half-life for dihydroxy moxonidine is about 4 hours. Dihydroxymoxonidine is metabolized to dihydroxymoxonine, which has an elimination half-life of about 24 hours.
