Diiodoacetonitrile is an aliphatic compound with two aldehyde groups. It reacts with water to form triiodomethane, which is used in the preparation of alkyl esters. Diiodoacetonitrile has been found to be mutagenic and it can be used as a polymerization initiator in the production of polyvinyl alcohol.
