Description

[[3-[(Dimethylamino)carbonyl]-2-pyridinyl]sulfonyl]carbamic acid methyl ester is a molecule with herbicidal activity. The first step in the synthesis of this molecule is the reaction of 3-aminocarbonyl-2-pyridinesulfonic acid with dimethylamine and methylamine to form the corresponding amides. These amides are then hydrolyzed to produce [[3-[(dimethylamino)carbonyl]-2-pyridinyl]sulfonyl]carbamic acid methyl ester. This molecule has been shown to inhibit growth of plants by inhibiting photosynthesis. It binds to the chloroplast, which contains chlorophyll, and prevents its conversion into sugar.
