3,8-Dinitro-6-phenylphenanthridine is a ligand that binds to the mitochondrial membrane. It has been shown to inhibit mitochondrial proteins and cause mitochondrial dysfunction. 3,8-Dinitro-6-phenylphenanthridine has also been shown to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in mitochondria, which are thought to be involved in the development of cancer and other diseases. The photophysical properties of 3,8-dinitro-6-phenylphenanthridine have been studied using a variety of techniques including emission spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance.
