Product Information

Name:
2-Docosahexaenoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine
Description:

2-Docosahexaenoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine is a component of cell membranes that may be important for cell signaling, regulation of ion transport, and the modulation of membrane fluidity. It has been shown to enhance the rate at which chloride ions diffuse through hydrated erythrocyte membranes. 2-Docosahexaenoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine binds to bilayers and lipids in a lamellar fashion, which may be due to its polyunsaturated fatty acid composition. The methyl group on this molecule is transferred from an S atom to a C atom in the lipid bilayer, creating an ether linkage. This process is catalyzed by esterases and glucuronidases, which hydrolyze esters or glucuronides attached at carbon 3 in 2DGPC.
