Dropropizine is a natural compound that has been used in the treatment of chronic cough. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity and to suppress the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-8 (IL-8). Dropropizine has also been shown to inhibit the inflammatory response in squamous cell carcinoma. Toxicity studies have shown that dropropizine does not cause any long-term toxicity, even at high doses. In toxicity studies, dropropizine was administered at high doses for up to 6 months with no adverse effects observed. The LD50 of dropropizine is greater than 3 g/kg in rats and mice. Dropropizine has also been found to be safe for use in humans when administered at 10 mg/kg daily for 1 week or 5 mg/kg daily for 2 weeks.
