Description

(Z)-Dodec-3-en-1-ol is a pheromone that is released by the sternal glands of termites. It is one of the major components of the termite pheromones and has been found to be a conspecific, pheromonal, synthetic, and releaser pheromone. It has been postulated that this compound may be an attractant to other termites or an alarm signal to other termites. Solid phase microextraction was used in this study to extract this compound from the termitidae family of insects. This method was able to extract (Z)-dodec-3-en-1-ol from the sternal glands of kalotermitidae and prorhinotermes species.
