9-Decyn-1-ol is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have neurotrophic effects in the rat p388 cell line. It stimulates the growth of cells and induces mitogenic activity. 9-Decyn-1-ol inhibits the uptake of bacteriochlorophyll by phagocytic cells, which suggests it may be useful in the treatment of infections caused by these bacteria. 9-Decyn-1-ol is a fluorinated analog of 1,9 decadienal (1,9D). The molecule contains an unsaturated fatty acid chain with a cis double bond at position 3 and an additional double bond at position 10. This fatty acid chain is biosynthesized from oleic acid and palmitic acid.
