1,3-Dimethylnaphthalene is a chemical intermediate that is used for the synthesis of perfumes and pharmaceuticals. It can be synthesized by reacting 1,3-dimethylbenzene with hydrogen fluoride in trifluoroacetic acid. The compound has been analyzed using solid phase microextraction (SPME) coupled to gas chromatography (GC). The GC analysis showed that the compound had a constant boiling point and an elimination rate of about 3.4 mL/min at normal pressure. The compound is not acutely toxic, but it does exhibit low energy toxicity as a result of its organic acids content.
