Product Information
1,8-Dimethylcarbazole is a carboniferous aromatic heterocycle that belongs to the carbazole family. It has been found in geochemical samples from both the North and South China Seas. The 1,8-dimethylcarbazole molecule can be synthesized from 1,2-dibromoethane by desulfurization with hydrogen gas in the presence of copper. It is also present as an isomeric mixture with 2,4-dimethylcarbazole. The molecule has been shown to have fluorescent properties and reacts with alkyl substituents to form new compounds such as ethyl 3-methyl-1,8-dimethylcarbazole and methyl 3-(3'-methyl)-1,8-dimethylcarbazole.
