Dihydroergotamine is a drug used to treat migraine headaches. It is thought to act by constricting blood vessels in the brain, thereby relieving the pain of migraines. Dihydroergotamine is available as a nasal spray, which can be administered at home. The drug may also work by inhibiting the release of serotonin, histamine, and other chemicals that are involved in the development of migraines. Dihydroergotamine has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and has been used in treating bowel disease and nasal congestion. This drug should not be taken with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as this may increase the risk of bleeding ulcers or other gastrointestinal side effects. Dihydroergotamine interacts with several drugs including warfarin, oral contraceptives, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). This medication should not be used in people with congestive heart failure.br>br
