Nemadectin is a macrocyclic lactone that is active against endoparasites of animals. It is used to control nematode and arthropod parasites in cattle, sheep, and goats. Nemadectin is administered orally or topically to animals as a single dose or in repeated doses. Nemadectin has been shown to be effective against wild-type strains of the parasite Haemonchus contortus and the bacterial strain Escherichia coli. Nemadectin binds to the cuticle of the parasites and disrupts lipid synthesis by inhibiting fatty acid biosynthesis.
