4-(Di-p-tolylamino)benzaldehyde is a crystalline, dodecyl, fluorescent compound with an anionic, sulfate water solubility. It has a yellow color and a crystalline powder form. 4-(Di-p-tolylamino)benzaldehyde is toxic to the environment and may be used as a probe for pollution. 4-(Di-p-tolylamino)benzaldehyde is also known as TPAB and can be used as a surfactant in the production of certain foods. The fluorescence properties of this compound have been shown to increase when it is supercooled or mixed with water.
