Description:

2,6-Dimethylbenzylchloride is a nucleophilic compound that reacts with electrophiles such as chloride ions to form an intermediate cationic species and thus activates the chlorine atom. This reaction can be used for the synthesis of heterocycles and for making substitution reactions in aliphatic compounds. The compound has been shown to react with zirconium in order to stabilize it and prevent its oxidation. 2,6-Dimethylbenzylchloride is also a good nucleophile because it has an electron-withdrawing substituent on the methyl group, which makes it more reactive. 2,6-Dimethylbenzylchloride absorbs at 520 nm and fluoresces at 590 nm when excited with light of appropriate frequencies.
