4-Dimethylamino-2-methylazobenzene (4DMAMB) is a chemical substance that has been shown to produce liver tumors in animals after chronic oral exposure. 4DMAMB is also an inducer of respiratory control, cell nuclei and enzyme activities in animals. The uptake of 4DMAMB by liver cells was found to be dependent on the basic protein sephadex g-100. This substance can also induce carcinogenesis in rats after chronic oral exposure and inhibit mitochondrial enzymes. 4DMAMB is not mutagenic or teratogenic, but it is carcinogenic when given orally to rats.
