2,6-Dinitrobenzoic acid is a nitrobenzoic acid derivative that has been shown to be an effective agent for the treatment of certain types of cancers. It is used as a cytotoxic agent against solid tumor cells and is also effective against leukemia cells. 2,6-Dinitrobenzoic acid has been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis by inhibiting the enzyme activity of DNA polymerase. This drug is conjugated with glucuronide in humans and has been detected in urine as the major metabolite. The photophysical properties of 2,6-dinitrobenzoic acid are consistent with its role as a photosensitizer. This compound can be used to determine the concentration of nitrite ion in urine samples using analytical methods such as constant or dihedral angle spectroscopy.
