3,4-Dimethoxy-2-nitrobenzaldehyde is an organic compound with the chemical formula C7H6O3. It is the nitro derivative of 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde and can be used in the diagnosis of cancer. This compound was synthesized by reacting sodium nitrite with 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde in aqueous solution at room temperature. The resulting product is soluble in water and organic solvents and has been shown to have anticancer activity against resistant cancer cells and human cyp1a1. In addition, it reacts with alkylating agents such as tetrazole or cationic surfactants to produce compounds that are cytotoxic to cancer cells.
