Di-isopropyl disulfide is a cross-linking agent that can be used to modify the surface of polymers. It has been used as a coating for medical devices and in the production of pharmaceuticals. Di-isopropyl disulfide has shown inhibitory effects against infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, by inhibiting the growth of bacteria. The reactive functional group on di-isopropyl disulfide is activated by hydrochloric acid to form sulphur dioxide, which reacts with oxygen to form sulphur trioxide. This reaction has been shown to upregulate genes related to brassica family plants, such as broccoli and cabbage.
