2,4-Dimethylthiazole is a heterocyclic organic compound with the molecular formula CH3C6H3. It is an acidic compound that can react with carbon tetrachloride to form 2,4-dimethylthioethanol and chloroform. This compound has been shown to be an intermediate in the synthesis of lepidine, which is a nitrogenous compound used as a fungicide. 2,4-Dimethylthiazole also reacts with nitrogenous compounds such as amino acids and proteins. The reaction products are often unknown because it is difficult to isolate the product from the reactants.
