α,α-Dimethylbenzylamine (DMBA) is a chemical compound with the formula CH3CH(CH3)2C6H4NH. DMBA is a precursor to trifluoroacetic acid, which is used in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals. It also has been shown to have anticancer effects and can be used as a treatment for chronic bronchitis. DMBA can be synthesized from benzyl chloride, carbon disulfide, and an alkynyl group. The final step in this process involves hydrolysis of the amide group to yield DMBA.
