Description

N,N-dimethyl-2-(methylamino)acetamide hydrochloride is a synthetic amide that has been used as an acid solution and as a linker. It has also been used to prepare creatine and carbonic esters. N,N-dimethyl-2-(methylamino)acetamide hydrochloride is a zwitterion with an amido group. It can be prepared by the reaction of methyl methylamine and 2-acetylimidazole in water. Ammonia gas is released during this reaction, which is why it must be carried out under anhydrous conditions. The chromophore of N,N-dimethyl-2-(methylamino)acetamide hydrochloride is between the nitrogen atoms on the amido group. This product can be made in two steps from methyl methylamine and acetylimidazole by reacting them in water with ammonia gas as a catalyst.
