3,4-Dihydro-1H-isoquinoline-2-carboxamidine (DHICA) is an enzyme inhibitor that can be used to treat infectious diseases. It inhibits the activity of a number of enzymes including debrisoquine hydroxylase, cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6), and drug transporter proteins. DHICA has been shown to decrease the production of inflammatory mediators in patients with bowel disease and may have potential as a therapeutic treatment for other inflammatory conditions. DHICA also has toxicological studies in vivo using humans, which have been shown to have no adverse effects on the central nervous system or renal function.
