Description:

Dimethyl 2-(tert-butyl)malonate (DMBM) is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of esters. It is produced by the elimination of methanol and dimethyl from dimethyl malonate. The reaction can be monitored with spectroscopy and monitored by refluxing at temperatures between 120-140 °C. The reactants are argon and methanol, which are heated in a pyrolysis tube to generate DMBM. The product has a boiling point of 204 °C and can be isolated using vacuum distillation.
