Di-n-Octadecyl disulphide is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is used as a cross-linking agent in polymers. It has been shown to be a potent antimicrobial agent with broad spectrum activity against bacteria, fungi, and enveloped viruses. Di-n-octadecyl disulphide is effective against many Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It can also be used as a model system for studying the interactions of phosphite and fatty acids.
