2,5-Difluorophenol is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C6H4F2O. It belongs to the class of phenols and can be produced by reacting chlorine with an alcohol. 2,5-Difluorophenol has two isomers: ortho-difluorophenol and para-difluorophenol. Ortho-difluorophenol is more reactive than para-difluorophenol and reacts with hydrogen in a chemical reaction called hydrogenation. In this reaction, hydrogen is added to the molecule in the place of hydroxyl groups to produce a different compound. The active analogs of difluorophénols are fluorinated derivatives such as pentaflurorophenols or pentachlorofenols that have been shown to be useful for the production of polymers and plastics. Difluorophénols are also used in ionization techniques such
