4-(Dichloroacetyl)-1-oxa-4-azaspiro[4.5]decane NA is a chiral, oxidase inhibitor that binds to and inhibits the enzyme acetyl-CoA synthetase. This compound has been shown to be active against lipid biosynthesis in yeast cells, as well as bacterial growth in salt solution and transport of cyclohexanol in plants. The conformation of this molecule is nonplanar and it is not able to bind to the enzyme thiol group on the enzyme's active site. 4-(Dichloroacetyl)-1-oxa-4-azaspiro[4.5]decane NA also blocks the production of fatty acids in plants by inhibiting the activity of acyl carrier protein (ACP).
