2,3-Dibromopropionyl chloride (2,3-DBPC) is a reactive chlorinating agent that reacts with nucleophiles to form substitution products. The reaction of 2,3-DBPC with amines produces substitution products that can be used for diagnosis. 2,3-DBPC has been shown to react with the nitrogen nucleophiles in nuclear DNA and is used for the detection of colorectal carcinoma cells. In addition to its use as a diagnostic reagent, 2,3-DBPC has been shown to have anticancer activity against colorectal carcinoma cell lines.
