The compound is synthesized by the cleavage products of acetophenone and methoxy groups, which are carbonyl group and acetylation. 3,4-Dimethoxyacetophenone can be used as a homogeneous catalyst for reactions involving methylene compounds. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the reaction mechanism of methylamine and ethylene oxide.
