Description:
3,5-Dimethylphenylthiourea is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to be active against staphylococcus. It is a water soluble, white crystalline solid that can be prepared by the reaction of phenylthiocarbonyl chloride with dimethylformamide. 3,5-Dimethylphenylthiourea has also been shown to have bioactive properties and is considered a preparative heterocycle. 3,5-Dimethylphenylthiourea is soluble in polar solvents such as alcohols and acetone, but not in nonpolar solvents such as benzene or hexane. It can be synthesized by the reaction of thiohydantoin with hydantoin.
