Description:

b-Dimethylaminopropionitrile (BAPN) is a polymerizable monomer that undergoes irreversible inhibition of the enzyme cytochrome p450. This competitive inhibition prevents the metabolism of other substrates, leading to an accumulation of these substrates and increased toxicity. BAPN is used in biological treatment to remove hydrogen sulfide from wastewater, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and headache. It also has been shown to be an effective catalyst for amine reactions that are important for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals.
