3',4'-Difluoroacetophenone is a substrate for acetylation in the lungs and has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on lung epithelial cells. The structural formula of 3',4'-difluoroacetophenone is shown below:
This compound is also a potent inhibitor of influenza virus, displaying an IC50 value of 0.5 μM against influenza A/WSN/33 (H1N1) and an IC50 value of 1.3 μM against influenza A/PuertoRico/8/1934 (H1N2). The antiviral activity of this compound may be due to inhibition of viral RNA synthesis by blocking the action of the viral enzyme RNA-dependent RNA polymerase.
