2,6-Dibromo-4-(trifluoromethoxy)aniline is an agrochemical that is used as a fungicide to control the growth of fungi on plants. It has been shown to be effective against a wide range of fungal organisms and plant diseases. 2,6-Dibromo-4-(trifluoromethoxy)aniline inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting the dehydrogenase enzyme in the mitochondria and chloroplasts in plant cells. The high specificity of this compound for fungi means that it does not affect other microorganisms such as bacteria or animal cells. This chemical also reacts with chloride ions to form a highly reactive chlorine species which reacts with organic molecules in the cell membrane to form carboxanilide products that disrupt membrane permeability and cause cell death.
