Product Information
- Diphenylmethylene-Glycine benzyl ester
- DPM-Gly-OBzl
- benzyl N-(diphenylmethylidene)glycinate
N-(Diphenylmethylene) glycine benzyl ester is an acidic compound that is used in the preparation of glycine and benzophenone. It can be synthesized by hydrolysis of the imine formed with glycine and benzophenone. The hydrolysis product is a mixture of two compounds: N-benzoylglycine, which has a phenolic group, and N-phenylglycine, which has a benzylic ether group. The recrystallization procedure yields pure crystals of N-(diphenylmethylene) glycine benzyl ester. This compound is also used in phase transfer catalysis to catalyze the reaction between potassium tert-butoxide and chloroform. In this type of catalysis, the reactants are separated by an immiscible liquid phase, such as water and an organic solvent. The organic solvent dissolves the reactant that is less soluble in water.
