Dimethylphenylsilanol is a chelate ring that can be synthesized by cross-coupling of an organic molecule with a magnesium salt. It is used as a cross-linking agent and viscosity control agent in the production of nanotubes. Dimethylphenylsilanol has been shown to be an effective hydroxy group donor in homogeneous catalysts for reactions with nonpolar solvents. The nmr spectra of dimethylphenylsilanol are very similar to those of the magnesium salt, while the reaction products are different. It is also possible to use solid catalysts as a catalyst in this reaction.
