Description:

Diphenyl(2,4,6-triMethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide (DPPO) is an experimental surfactant that forms a cationic polymer by the reaction of boron nitride with glycol ether. When exposed to radiation, DPPO undergoes cationic polymerization. DPPO has been shown to be soluble in water and is effective in reducing the surface tension of water. It is also genotoxic and cytotoxic to lung fibroblasts. This compound may have clinical relevance for treatment of lung diseases such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. DPPO absorbs uv light and emits light at a wavelength of 600 nm. This emission can be used as a fluorescent probe for the detection of hydroxyl groups on molecules.
