4,5-Dimethyl-3-hydroxy-2,5-dihydrofuran-2-one is an amide that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. It has been shown to be effective in treating infectious diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, or Chlamydia pneumoniae. 4,5-Dimethyl-3-hydroxy-2,5-dihydrofuran-2-one interacts with host receptors and inhibits the activity of sugar enzymes such as glucose oxidase. This drug also exhibits high resistance to chemical inhibitors such as sodium carbonate.
