Description

Hydroxyanthraquinone is a quinone derivative that has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth. It has been shown to induce DNA strand breaks in bacterial cells by hydrogen bonding interactions and to enhance light emission by redox potential. Hydroxyanthraquinone inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria, which may be due to its ability to react with the hydroxyl group of amino acids. Hydroxyanthraquinone also has anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to prevent the formation of reactive oxygen species and lipid peroxidation products.
