Disulphamide is a pyrimidine compound that inhibits the synthesis of proteins. It has been used to treat autoimmune diseases, heart disease, and infectious diseases. Disulphamide is synthesized by reacting urea with sulphuric acid in a reaction that requires an optimum pH of 0.5-1.5. Disulfamide has shown inhibitory properties against bowel disease and fatty acid oxidation which are associated with diabetic neuropathy and hepatitis respectively. This drug also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-2, IL-4, and TNF-α as well as the expression of proinflammatory genes such as COX-2 and iNOS in vitro and in vivo models.
