Dithiolan-2-imine (DTTI) is a regiospecific chemical reagent that is used in organic synthesis. It reacts with thiourea to produce dithiolanes and dithiane derivatives, which are important in the preparation of many pharmaceuticals. DTTI also reacts with collagen to form a ligand that binds to the active sites on the surface of cancer cells. This binding inhibits the growth and proliferation of cancer cells by preventing cell division. DTTI can be used as an antibiotic agent against bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is a common cause of hospital-acquired infections. DTTI has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, such as its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
