2-(Dimethylamino)-5,6-dimethyl-1H-pyrimidin-4-one (DMAP) is a heterocyclic compound that has been used as a liquid chromatography stationary phase. DMAP is a fluorescence probe for human urine and has also been used for the detection of pesticides and other substances in the environment. DMAP can be photolyzed to release hydrogen cyanide, which can be detected using radiation or photoelectron spectroscopy. It has also been found to have some dietary uses, such as being an antimicrobial agent in meat products. This compound is unstable at high pH and is hydrolyzed into 2-(dimethylamino)-5,6-dihydropyrimidine.
