Description:
1-(2,4-Dihydroxy-3-propylphenyl)ethanone is an inhibitor of the cytosolic phospholipase A2 (cPLA2). It competes with arachidonic acid for its binding site on the cPLA2 and therefore prevents the production of prostaglandins. Zileuton inhibits inflammation by inhibiting both leukotriene synthesis and release. 1-(2,4-Dihydroxy-3-propylphenyl)ethanone has been shown to be effective in reducing bronchospasm caused by asthma and other related conditions. The antiinflammatory effects of this drug are due to its ability to inhibit leukotriene synthesis through competitive inhibition.
