3-N,N-Dimethylbenzaldehyde is an aromatic compound with a benzene ring and two methyl groups. It has been shown in vitro to inhibit SIRT2 and is a potential candidate for the treatment of cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and other diseases. 3-N,N-Dimethylbenzaldehyde binds to the chromophore of SIRT2 and inhibits its activity. This inhibition leads to increased acetylation of proteins that are involved in cell cycle regulation, DNA repair, tumor suppression, and apoptosis. 3-N,N-Dimethylbenzaldehyde has also been shown to be a fluorescent inhibitor molecule in vitro.
